Dr. Alison Lechner has been practicing traditional Family Medicine for over 15 years.   She became an Institute of Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner in 2019. I was born and raised  in Deerfield, Illinois.  I remember in 6th grade being totally awe-struck of  the body systems and how they are so intricately intertwined. I was hooked,  and never considered any career outside of medicine.

Looking back, it was in my genes to become a functional medicine provider. My father,  I like to say,  was organic before there was “organic”.  We always had to eat our vegetables, were never allowed fast food or soda (even though we had to fill the soda machine at the family retail store). We grew fruits and vegetables, and never used any pesticides or insecticides. My father would tediously cut out all the worm holes in the apples so that we would eat them.  Without knowing it, my father was teaching me that food is medicine.

Like many of my patients, I developed medical issues that were not being addressed with conventional medicine. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and hypothyroidism and despite everything “looking great on the labs”, there were some days I could barely function. After implementing a functional diet, I felt immensely better. I learned first hand Food is Medicine, Food is Information, just as my dad was teaching me as a young child.

Unfortunately, both my parents have died at young ages. I know that my genes are not the greatest. Functional Medicine provides me with a road map on how to prevent traveling down the same paths as my parents. Thankfully,  my genes are not my destiny. Epigenetics- the science of understanding how your genes are expressed, and how you can use diet, lifestyle and supplements to shape your health destiny  –  keeps me on a healthy track.  I am teaching my children to live a lifestyle that keeps them healthy. I teach each of my patients what they need to do to optimize their genes in this modern world.

It is a privilege and honor for people to choose me to be their  physician. I treat all my patients as though they are a member of my family. Helping my patients meet their health goals requires a collaborative relationship, built on mutual trust and respect.

I am equally honored to have the amazing women who have chosen to join and support me to help you. Together, we  provide a happy, safe space for patients to come to heal. We help you shine from the inside out.
